The InteRDom Summer 2010 interns traveled on their first cultural excursion of the summer agenda on Saturday, June 19th to the Hermanas Mirabal Museum and the Leon Cultural Center in the northern region of the Dominican Republic.
The interns enjoyed the scenic drive through the fertile farmlands around La Vega, before being greeted at the Mirabal Sisters’ Museum by Doña Dede, the only surviving sister of the Trujillo-era heroines. After touring the museum, they traveled to Santiago, the second-largest city in the Dominican Republic, and lunched at the popular Carrito de Marchena before exploring the anthropological and art exhibits at the Leon Cultural Center.
It was a day full of history and culture to welcome the interns to the Dominican Republic!
