Professionals and educators from more than 200 countries meet annually to discuss trends, best practices and labor regulations behind internships at the Global Internship Conference. This year, InteRDom will be represented at the event at the University of California at Berkeley, held by the Academic Internships Council (AIC), in collaboration with the Foundation for International Education (FIE) and the Study Abroad Foundation.
Molly Maguire Teas, Education Counselor for the US State Department, said that internships “provide an excellent opportunity to strengthen relations between the countries” and she also highlighted the results of the “Passport to India” program, which creates opportunities for academic and professional exchange between students and teachers from that country.
The Conference aims to promote internships as an integral element of the education of college students. Presentations throughout the program demonstrate the interest of all countries in creating the best conditions to facilitate the integration of international students in local organizations and projects, and to expedite immigration procedures, facilitate safe accommodations and promote academic interaction with foreign universities and academies.
The conference organizers have invested significant efforts in this year’s edition to discuss transparency, institutional collaboration and innovation in the sector. This has included extensive dialogue on recruitment practices at universities, non-conventional internships in non-traditional industries and countries, and how to create virtual ecosystems through social networks to facilitate interaction between employers, internship coordinators and candidates.

The work sessions have provided opportunities to discuss and rethink internships from every imaginable angle: as a revitalizing agent of higher education programs, as an opportunity for organizations to recruit, and how these fit into the overall relations of the countries and their work regulations.
The Global Internship Conference will conclude with a panel on paid and unpaid internships led by the Director of the Center for Capacity Building in Study Abroad, Margaret Heisel.
InteRDom will participate in this event to strengthen collaboration with the Academic Internship Council (AIC), to share the experiences it has gained through the mobilization of international students to the Dominican Republic, and the practice of coordinating the training programs that InteRDom offers to organizations in the country to improve or implement internship programs and integrate local and international students.
InteRDom is an initiative of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), and is part of their efforts to promote academic exchange, diversify the employment sector, and promote international internships and academic research.
