InteRDom, through a partnership with one of its affiliated institutions, the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNADR), was invited to participate in the Opportunity Fair portion of the National Model United Nations (NMUN), held in New York City from April 17-23. NMUN organizes the world’s preeminent model UN conferences annually, educating 5,000+ participants from around the world, and the New York City Model is one of the premier events.
Because of its size, the Model is divided between two locations, the Sheraton and Marriott Marquis hotels in Midtown Manhattan, and the Opportunity Fair is produced twice, once at each location. On Tuesday, April 19 InteRDom shared a booth with the UNADR at the fair at the Sheraton, and on Wednesday, April 20 did the same at the Marriott.
The Opportunity Fair was an excellent venue for InteRDom, together with the UNADR, to put the Dominican Republic and its opportunities for professional advancement on display for students from all over the United States and other parts of the world. Representatives distributed materials and spoke with hundreds of students curious about the development of the country, the academic and professional opportunities and the presence of the United Nations and its programs there.
Other organizations represented at the fair included many international universities advertising their graduate study programs, such as American University, Freie Universitaet Berlin, Hult International Business School, Seton Hall University, Yale University Press and the University of California San Diego School of International Relations and Pacific Studies, to name a few. Many corportations, such as Proctor and Gamble and Verizon, were also represented, in addition to a number of international organizations including the World Federation of United Nations Associations, United Nations Association of the United States of America, UNICEF and the Osgood Center.
InteRDom’s participation in the fair came by way of an invitation from the UNADR, which is also affiliated to InteRDom’s parent institutions, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundacion Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE). InteRDom and UNADR partner on many projects and programs, as they have an overlapping mission to serve youth and promote intellectual exchange and multicultural understanding both in the Dominican Republic and abroad.
