InteRDom Hosts University of Rhode Island Students in Dominican Republic for Winter Program

The InteRDom program began its winter session with a political science group from the University of Rhode Island (URI) today. Students arrived this morning and had an orientation session of the program, which runs from January 4 – 15 in the Dominican Republic. The group this year consists of eight students and one professor.

During their first week, the group will be performing service learning activities with the Blue Mission Group, where students will be living within a small community in the Dominican Republic and working alongside the villagers to bring them the gift of water and sanitation.

During the second week, the group will work in Santo Domingo and explore cultural, professional, and social elements of Dominican society. InteRDom will provide several seminars such as “Project Management and NGO work in the D.R.”, as well as “Current status of Economy and Politics in the D.R.” The students will enjoy also several tours, such as National Congress of the Dominican Republic, Colonial Zone on Trikke scooters, and the Organic Cacao Farm. Students will also visit several museums, including the Museum of the Resistance, the Mirabal Sisters Museum, and the Rum and Chocolate Museums.

InteRDom, an initiative of GFDD/Funglode is a competitive internship, research, and study program in the Dominican Republic that promotes professional, academic, and cultural exchange between students, universities, professionals, businesses, and non-governmental organizations on both national and international scales. InteRDom also works with universities and professors to develop short and long-term faculty-led courses and field trips with highly-specialized content. InteRDom fosters and promotes professional, academic, scientific, technological, and cultural exchange of students and professionals in public, private, and non-profit organizations of the Dominican Republic. It significantly contributes to the development of the nation’s employment sector and the advancement of academic research.
