On Friday, September 23, InteRDom representatives traveled to Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut to participate for the second consecutive year in the International Opportunities Fair, given by the undergraduate Career Services office.
InteRDom had a booth at the fair, where representatives met distributed materials, showed students sample internship and research proposals and spoke with students about how the Program could help them fulfill their unique academic and career goals in the Dominican Republic.
A defining characteristic that sets the Yale International Opportunities Fair apart from other fairs is the quantity of first-year students in attendance. Less than a month into their university studies, freshman students flocked to the fair in great numbers to learn about the wide variety of international opportunities available to them so that they can better plan their four years of schooling. This motivation to plan ahead is promoted by InteRDom, as the program recommends that you begin the application process at least one year prior to the desired travel date in order to secure financial resources, credit transfers and language preparation.
InteRDom’s participation in the International Opportunities Fair served to further solidify its strong relationship with Yale alumni and programs. On the heels of the program’s collaboration with the MacMillan Center to organize and execute the 2011 PIER Summer Institute for Educators and its expanding relationship with Yspaniola, the student group-turned-NGO hosting service learning projects in the Esperanza area, InteRDom continues to look for ways to expand and develop its relationship with the University because of the proactivity and creativity of its student body.
The internship program, InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), is the premier internship, research and academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers international students the opportunity to research important topics at the forefront of the United Nations agenda, obtain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their fields of study and/or earn academic credits by taking courses and seminars at a local university.
