Organizations Become Certified to Implement Internship Programs

The Internship Certification Seminar is among the initiatives being developed by the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE/GFDD) and its academic and professional exchange program, InteRDom Internships in the Dominican Republic, to strengthen human capital and national business development.

The seminar took place on Thursday and Friday, August 18 & 19, 2011 at the FUNGLODE headquarters in Santo Domingo, where ten representatives of the Ministry of Education, Unilever Caribe, Centro Cuesta Nacional, Parmalat Dominicana and Young and Rubicam Damaris were given the tools that will allow them to develop their own exclusive internship programs as well as to reform existing programs.

The 4th edition of the Internship Certification Seminar was characterized by the dynamic participation of those who attended and by the interesting exchange of institutional experiences, interspersed with questions related to the needs of each organization. The program offered time to discuss the elements that form part of the learning plan for interns as well as how to integrate other members of the organizations into the process of “learning by doing.” Program facilitator, Joaquín Salazar, presented cases on the implementation of internships among local and international businesses.

The strengthening of joint collaborative relationships with InteRDom and the possibility of involving international university students was one of the most attractive topics of discussion because of the high-quality guarantee that InteRDom offers when placing an intern in a Dominican business or company.

Participants in the seminar also received a copy of the InteRDom Guide to Internships, a publication that will help plan and improve the management of internships.

“Internships are a key element for the strategic development of human capital of organizations; they also represent a modality of professional development that will help to elevate the quality of future and current employees,” said Sarah Romero, Coordinator of Corporate Relations for InteRDom.
A well-structured internship program enriches the work culture and helps disseminate the image of an organization not only among the local and international universities but also within the communities they impact through their social responsibility initiatives.

The Internship Certification Seminar is offered quarterly at the offices of the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE/GFDD) as part of the strategy being implemented by InteRDom to generate a culture of academic and professional exchange in the Dominican Republic.
