For the second consecutive year InteRDom will participate in the Annual Conference of the Association of Academic Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean (AAPLAC), which will be held from 15 to 18 February in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Mexico.
The conference theme “The Study Abroad Experience in Latin America: An Opportunity to Create Social Awareness,” will help participants to reflect on the impact and significance of their academic programs between students and the communities where they are carried out. Participants will also analyze how international programs can influence students to be better citizens and to better prepare them to function in today’s global economy. The proposed AAPLAC agenda will also provide spaces to assess whether the pedagogical tools that are being used in international education are helping students to be more compassionate, develop empathy and social awareness, and will streamline the expectations placed on students after living for a semester or a year in a different culture.
InteRDom’s participation in this conference will contribute to improving the standards of the program in the Dominican Republic, to evaluate and compare the cultural adaptation process of the students and their transition into the internship workplace and to explore new ways to motivate students to appreciate the local culture. The conference agenda will facilitate discussions on valuable experience from representatives of other curricula developed in the Latin America and the Caribbean, which will allow the discussion of best practices and trends to facilitate learning, research and professional production.
The InteRDom program will be represented by the Coordinator of Internships and Corporate Relations, Reyna Rodriguez, who will also participate in the Special Workshop: “Using the Standards of Good Practice to Develop and Manage High Quality Programs.” Rodriguez will also attend sessions on topics related to social awareness, diversity and safety, the student perspective on international experience, including technology as an educational tool and a session on the academic experience of Colombia.
The internship program, InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and FUNGLODE is the premier internship, research and academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers international students the opportunity to research important topics at the forefront of the United Nations agenda, obtain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their fields of study and/or earn academic credits by taking courses and seminars at a local university.
