The first group of this summer’s InteRDom students has arrived in Santo Domingo. The international university students will be conducting academic research and carrying-out internships with reputed national and international organizations in the Dominican Republic.

During their time in the Dominican Republic, program participants will be taking specialized language and academic courses (exclusive to InteRDom) at the Ibero-American University UNIBE. Course options include a Spanish crash course, a graduate seminar with leading specialists on the Central American Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA), and a course on contemporary Caribbean culture, in which students will study the history and cultures of the Caribbean, exploring a range of topics from colonial history to contemporary Caribbean pop culture.

Students will also be able to partake in InteRDom’s Summer Agenda, which includes excursions to an array of areas of historical and cultural significance, such as the house of the Mirabal sisters(sisters killed by ex-dictator Trujillo in 1960), the cultural center, Centro Leon, Enriquillo Lake, and Jimaní, among others. This summer InteRDom will also be offering workshops on Dominican music, cuisine, and Taíno culture at Rancho Campeche, an ecological ranch.

Through InteRDom’s agreements with international universities, awarded credits can be co-validated and transferred to students’ educational institutions.
