InteRDom Organizes Public Transportation Tutorial for 2008 Summer Students

The internship program, InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracy y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), organized a “public transportation tutorial” last Thursday, June 12th.
Following a presentation on the modes of transportation in the Dominican Republic, realized at the FUNGLODE Library, students, accompanied by InteRDom staff members, set off to familiarize themselves with the main bus, public car and metro routes in Santo Domingo’s Zona Colonial. Groups of interns together with InteRDom representatives walked until Máximo Gómez Avenue, one of the busiest streets in the city, and boarded public cars to go to Parque Independencia in the Zona Colonial.
During the orientation session, students not only learned about the different public transportation programs available to them, they received advise concerning safety while traveling and tips on how to recognize unmarked cars and taxis, as well as rates. Furthermore, they received information packets with maps of bus and metro routes and suggested paths to take to arrive at the university and the companies and organizations where they will be carrying-out their internships.
InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), offers students the opportunity to gain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their field of study.
The Program fosters and promotes the professional, academic, scientific, technological and cultural exchange of students and professionals in public, private and non-profit organizations of the Dominican Republic. It significantly contributes to the development of the nation’s employment sector and the advancement of academic research, while providing spaces for personal and professional growth, internationalization and multicultural understanding.
