InteRDom Interns Tour the National Congress

On June 24, 2009 the InteRDom interns got to experience the politics of the Dominican Republic first-hand when they went on a tour of the National Congress building in Santo Domingo.
The students were given a guided professional tour of both the Senate and House wings, as well as the joint assembly area where Congress is currently convened in a special session to debate Constitutional revisions. They had the opportunity to sit behind the desks of the some of the representatives, as well as experience the new computerized attendance and voting system.
The students were invited by Senator Dominguez Brito of Santiago, former Attorney General of the Dominican Republic and the head of the Style and Judiciary Committees, who received them in his office for a small reception at the end of their visit.
The students were also greeted by Representative Juan Andrés Comprés Brito of Moca and Manuel Almánzar, Dominican Consul in Miami, who shared their experiences and answered questions during the reception.
InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), offers students the opportunity to gain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their field of study.
