InteRDom Forms New Relationships and Finds Inspiration at CIEE Annual Conference

InteRDom to Attend CIEE Annual Conference in Minneapolis New York, November 19, 2013

The 2013 CIEE Annual Conference was buzzing with energy as InteRDom representatives joined more than 500 international education professionals to discuss innovations and demands in the field of education abroad, while forming new relationships with study abroad professionals from different universities across the US and abroad. Participants also cultivated ideas surrounding the conference’s theme, “Align. Innovate. Educate,” during the four-day conference, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota from November 20-23, 2013.

InteRDom representatives attended workshops on many topics, from how to balance social media marketing to alumni network best practices to effectively communicating topics of diversity and race relations to incoming students in the program. The information gained from this conference will serve to enhance and diversify InteRDom’s services and programs in order to provide the highest quality experience possible to future students.

Not surprisingly, the presence of the Dominican Republic at the conference was everywhere this year, as there were a number of representatives from other Dominican programs as well as workshops presentations that highlighted the Dominican as a global education destination. This was great for InteRDom to make professional connections and also wonderful exposure for the country.

In addition to the networking and workshops provided at the conference, attendees were treated to a special reception at the Mill City Museum, where participants learned more about the unique culture of Minneapolis; a screening of the 10X10 documentary, Girl Rising, with a plenary address by the director of NGO Partnerships; and a fascinating talk given by polar explorer and educator, Ann Bancroft.

The conference sponsor, Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), is a leading international education provider which hosts more than 35,000 people a year on study, work, volunteer and travel programs in hundreds of locations all over the world.  The experience it has acquired in its 60 years of organizing programs fosters exchange, global competence and understanding and is a very important partner for InteRDom.

InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), is the premier internship, research and academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers international students the opportunity to research important topics at the forefront of the United Nations agenda, obtain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their fields of study and/or earn academic credits by taking courses and seminars at a local university.
