InteRDom Concludes Successful Visit to Rhode Island Universities

InteRDom representatives strengthened relations with faculty and students at the University of Rhode Island, Brown University and Johnson and Wales University during their visit to Kingston and Providence, Rhode Island on September 18-19, 2013. The schedule for the two days was packed, including participation in an international fair, meetings with faculty and student organizations and an information session for interested students.

On Wednesday, September 18, InteRDom participated in the hugely successful 2013 Study Abroad Fair at University of Rhode Island. More than 800 students passed through the fair, brimming with excitement for their possibilities to study abroad. InteRDom was well received by interested and enthusiastic students, with a constant crowd around the InteRDom booth inquiring about internship opportunities in fields such as environmental science, public health and communications. The booth was conveniently located next to that of the Office of International Education’s informational table on faculty-led winter programs, for which InteRDom serves as the host for both a nursing and a political science trip.

After the fair, InteRDom representatives visited the offices of the professors who are leading the January 2014 political science winter short program for which InteRDom serves as host. The visit served to finalize the details of the program and to further solidify the important relationship that has been created through this short program between URI and InteRDom since its inauguration in 2010. This year, the program is paired with a political science course, and will be accepting 15 exceptional student participants. In the evening, InteRDom representatives forged new connections with board members of URI’s La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity chapter, and gave a presentation to a group of students about the undergraduate, graduate and gap-year programs and opportunities available to students in the Dominican Republic. The meeting gave InteRDom the opportunity to plan future events and activities on the URI campus in collaboration with La Unidad Latina. Both the fair and the information session also provided spaces for InteRDom to generate interest in the winter short program.

The following day, InteRDom representatives headed to Providence to form new relationships and meet with members of the Dominican Student Association at Brown University and the La Unidad Latina chapter president at Johnson & Wales University. InteRDom is always enthusiastic about working with new student organizations and supporting them in events and activities on their c
ampuses.

InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), is the premier internship, research and academic study program in the Dominican Republic.
