Santo Domingo – On Monday, June 3th, InteRDom’s 2019 Summer program got underway in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with the introduction of the four new interns who will participate in the current program, led by Manuel Medrano, GFDD’s program coordinator.
The interns participating in this year’s Summer program will be Marlene Beltre, a criminal justice student from CUNY John Jay College; Camryn Collete, a environmental student from Shenandoah University; Gabriela Garcia, a Bachelor of Science student from The College of New Rochelle; and Jessica de los Santos, a Bachelor of Arts student from Williams College.
After being introduced and receiving a tour of Funglode and the Juan Bosch Library, the students participated in a lunch hosted by the Foundation team in one of the Santo Domingo Colonial zone’s finest restaurants.
The interns were officially introduced by Mr. Manuel Medrano, GFDD’s InteRDom Program Coordinator, to Mr. Harold Modesto of the Observatorio Judicial Dominicano (Funglode) as well as Mr. Omar Shamir (UNAMAR) and Victoria de la Cruz (MUDE), of the institutions where the interns will be working during their stay in Santo Domingo.
Funglode is one of Latin America’s most prestigious think tanks, whose mission is to analyze vital issues that will promote the democratic strengthening of the Dominican Republic, based on national and international experiences through research and exchange programs, among others.
In the past, students who have participated in the exchange program have had the opportunity to carry out their internships in some of the country’s most prestigious institutions. The program offers international students a unique opportunity to obtain on-site experience in their particular areas of study.
Aside from the daily activities that they will carry out, the students will also have the opportunity to attend the weekly events organized by Funglode, as well as document their experiences and participate in the InteRDom blog.
