Announcing the Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program Transnational Law Program at University of Georgia School of Law

The Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program is thrilled to announce it will be recruiting Dominican law students and young professionals to participate in the Transnational Law Program at the University of Georgia (UGA) School of Law, from April 13-23, 2014, in Athens, Georgia.

The Global Dominican Academic Exchange Program (GDAE) Transnational Law Program is a collaborative effort between InteRDom, a program of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), and the University of Georgia School of Law. The program will bring Dominican law students and young professionals to UGA Law for 11 days, where they will participate in a rigorous certificate program that introduces them to the American and international legal systems and education through a variety of courses and social and networking activities.

Dominican GDAE participants will join Brazilian law students from the University Mauricio de Nassau School, Brazil, who are jointly participating in the prestigious program. In addition to their exposure to American legal education through academic courses, participants will experience campus life and enjoy social events designed to inspire multicultural exchange and intellectual conversation with students and Georgia Law professors at one of the major research universities in the United States. It provides a unique opportunity for academic and cultural exchange and growth between Dominican and Brazilian participants and UGA Law LL.M. and J.D. students.

During their studies at Georgia Law, participants will also have access to the Alexander Campbell King Law Library and will be able to join the Georgia Society for International and Comparative Law, a student-run organization that organizes international opportunities for member students, which will host a mixer for all program participants and current Georgia Law students at the conclusion of the program.

The GDAE program was developed in 2013 with the first exchange hosted at Yale University through the Dominican Student Association (Quisqueyalies). InteRDom is growing the initiative for 2014 by offering the program multiple times in varying formats throughout the year at other higher learning institutions in the United States.

The Transnational Law Program is an initiative of the Dean Rusk Center for International Law and Policy aimed at bringing law students from foreign universities to study at Georgia Law for one to two weeks, providing a flexible curriculum and exposure to American legal education.

Dominican law students interested in applying may emailagenda@interdominternships.org to see if they qualify for the program. Applications will be accepted until March 14, 2014 and must include the application form, one-page essay, unofficial transcript, resume, copy of passport and valid US Visa. Formal academic study will be 15 hours total, therefore an F1 (student) visa is not required to participate in this program.  However, a valid US tourist visa is required.

InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), is the premier internship, research and academic study program in the Dominican Republic. It offers international students the opportunity to research important topics at the forefront of the United Nations agenda, obtain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their fields of study and/or earn academic credits by taking courses and seminars at a local university.
