Representatives from eight companies participated in the certification seminar for internship monitors and supervisors organized by InteRDom Internships in the Dominican Republic, an internship, research and academic exchange program sponsored by the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and its sister organization in the United States, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD). The activity took place December 1-2 at the Santo Domingo offices of FUNGLODE.
The certification process serves to facilitate managers, human resource professionals and participating project directors to implement or improve the internship programs within their respective institutions. In addition, the certification process helps to organize projects for the coming year, increase the program’s visibility among universities and recruit national and international college students.
During the event, participants discussed the elements that form part of a learning plan. They also took into account the role of intern monitors and coordinators and spoke about how to achieve the integration of the rest of the members of the organization in the “learn while doing” initiative.
Internships constitute a key element in the strategic development of the human capital of organizations as they represent a professional development modality that serves to raise the quality of future and current workers. A properly structured internship program enriches workplace culture and helps to disseminate the image of the organization in local and international universities.
To close the seminar, participants discussed exchange opportunities for Dominican and foreign professionals.
